Inside the song

Story & meaning

The shore is still dark when Ek Geng Fram begins. The earth is solid underfoot while water breaks against the land and flows back. A heart beats; one step follows, then another. “I walk forward” is a decision made before the morning has arrived.

Morning arrives gradually: grey sky, blue sky, then sunlight on the stones. The walk continues through each change. A beat and a footfall are enough to bring the next moment within reach. By the time birds rise over the water, those repeated steps have carried the song into daylight.
